"Cloned in the Twenties and Thirties" is a series of lithographic prints, hand-coloured in watercolour, depicting the childhood of twins in a small Yorkshire woollen town. This series is autobiographical . . . and is intended as "black comedy", in that, while they express my anger and bitterness at the unfortunate happenings that badly affected many family members, most of these incidents have a comic side, which I also stress. I have several times been asked . . . if I myself have written the captions on my prints. I cannot understand the reason for this question, unless it is that women of my generation are thought incapable of anything but the sentimental. If this is so, I hope to prove them wrong.
